How to Repay Your Nedbank Credit Card: All Payment Methods Explained
Nedbank offers multiple repayment channels for your credit card balance. The most important rule: pay at least the minimum amount by the statement due date each month to avoid late payment fees, interest penalties, and negative credit bureau reporting.
Method 1: NetBank Online Banking (Recommended)
- Log in to secured.nedbank.co.za using your Nedbank ID.
- Select Pay from the main menu.
- Choose your credit card account as the payment destination under My Nedbank Accounts or enter it as a beneficiary.
- Enter the payment amount (minimum, full balance, or a custom amount).
- Confirm the payment — it reflects on your credit card account immediately if transferred from a linked Nedbank account.
Method 2: Nedbank Money App
- Open the Nedbank Money app and log in.
- Tap Pay or Transfer.
- Select your credit card from the list of linked accounts.
- Enter the amount and confirm.
- Payment reflects immediately for internal transfers.
Method 3: Debit Order
Set up a recurring debit order to pay your credit card automatically each month:
- Log in to NetBank or the Money app.
- Navigate to Manage debit orders or contact the call centre at 0860 555 111.
- Choose between minimum payment debit order, fixed amount, or full balance debit order.
- Confirm the debit date (typically your statement due date).
Setting up a full-balance debit order is the most reliable way to avoid interest charges and late fees.
Method 4: EFT from Another Bank
If your primary bank account is with a different South African bank, you can pay via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT):
- Beneficiary name: Nedbank Credit Card
- Bank: Nedbank
- Account number: Your 16-digit credit card number (used as the account number)
- Branch code: 198765 (Nedbank universal branch code)
- Reference: Your name or ID number
EFT payments from other banks typically reflect within 1–2 business days. Allow adequate lead time before your due date to avoid late fees.
Method 5: Branch or ATM Deposit
- Visit any Nedbank branch or ATM.
- Make a cash deposit or transfer to your credit card account using the card number as the reference.
- Branch deposits reflect same day during banking hours. ATM cash deposits may take until the next business day.
Early Repayment
There is no early repayment penalty on Nedbank credit card revolving balances. You may pay more than the minimum at any time, or settle the full outstanding balance whenever you choose. Settling early reduces interest charges.
For the budget facility (fixed instalment plan), you may settle the remaining balance in full at any time. Contact 0860 555 111 or visit NetBank to obtain a settlement quote.
Consequences of Missed Payments
Failing to pay at least the minimum monthly amount by the due date has the following consequences:
- Late payment fee charged to your account.
- Interest accrual continues on the full outstanding balance at your personalised rate.
- Negative credit bureau listing — a missed payment is recorded on your credit report for a minimum of 2 years.
- Escalating debt — compounding interest on an unpaid balance can rapidly increase total debt outstanding.
- Legal action — persistent defaults may result in a Section 129 notice under the National Credit Act, followed by debt collection or legal proceedings.
Best Practices for Repayment
- Set up a full-balance debit order so you never miss a payment.
- Spend only what you can afford to repay in full within the 55-day interest-free window.
- If you cannot pay the full balance, pay as much above the minimum as possible to reduce interest.
- Review your monthly statement carefully for unauthorised charges.
- If you are in financial difficulty, contact Nedbank's debt counselling referral line at 0860 628 628 before missing a payment.
