Borrower Requirements

To qualify for a Nedbank credit card you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Hold a valid South African identity document (green barcoded ID book or Smart ID card); foreign nationals require a valid passport plus a work permit or residence permit.
  • Earn a regular monthly income meeting the card's minimum threshold (see table above).
  • Provide three months' payslips or three months' bank statements showing consistent income deposits.
  • Provide proof of residential address not older than three months (utility bill, municipal account, or lease agreement).
  • Have a credit record in good standing — Nedbank conducts a credit bureau check via the NCR-registered bureaux.
  • Permanent South African residents only for the standard range; Private Clients cards have additional requirements.

Repayment Terms

  • Minimum monthly payment: The greater of R50 or approximately 2.5–5% of the outstanding revolving balance.
  • Full balance: Settle the full statement balance by the due date to avoid interest charges entirely.
  • Budget facility: Large purchases can be converted to fixed monthly instalments over 6, 12, 24, 36, or 48 months at the applicable interest rate.

Cost Example (Gold Card)

Scenario: Purchase R5,000 on your Gold card, carry the balance for 30 days, interest rate 14.75% per annum.

  • Interest for 30 days = R5,000 × (14.75% ÷ 365) × 30 = approximately R60.69
  • Monthly service fee = R40
  • Total cost of credit for the month = approximately R100.69

If you settle the full R5,000 within the 55-day interest-free period, the total additional cost is only the monthly service fee of R40.

Risk Warning

Credit cards involve financial obligations. Interest accrues on all unpaid balances. Carrying a revolving balance month-to-month significantly increases the total cost of credit. Always ensure you can comfortably meet the minimum monthly repayment before applying. For debt counselling contact the National Credit Regulator at 0860 627 627 or visit www.ncr.org.za.
